WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY | 27/4/16

Want to hear a behind-the-scenes secret? My WIAW posts are never actually what I eat on a Wednesday. In order to try and mix it up a bit and to avoid these posts getting repetitive, I try to document my food on a day I’m either going somewhere or eating something intresting. This weeks post is throwing it back to Friday’s edible delights which was filled with carbs, carbs and oh, more carbs.

BREAKFAST
CINNAMON & RAISIN BAGEL WITH BUTTER

A rare occurrence on this Friday morn – NO PORRIDGE. I decided to ditch the oats and opted for a toasted cinnamon & raisin bagel with a generous lashing of butter. Bagels are, in my opinion, far more superior than most breads and when you throw my favourite spice in there it’s hard for me not to resist. I did contemplate topping it with a nut butter but let’s be honest here, nothing beats the classic yellow spread. Teamed with a coffee, it makes for a warming breakfast which is unfortunately still needed in April in Scotland.

GOOD FOOD VS. BAD FOOD

Raise your hand if you’ve fallen trap to the ‘clean eating/gluten free/vegan/fitness junkie’ Instagram accounts? I know I have. We live in a society that seems to have grown obsessed with the health kick. Gone are the days of healthy being simply to eat your 5-a-day. It’s all about ‘no sugar’ and ‘no meat’ and quite frankly I’m fed up with it.

What inspired me to create DelishEllie in the first place was the lack of social media accounts that promoted a healthy diet that was balanced. No extreme eating habits of any sorts. The media in general is forever highlighting foods that we should be cutting back on. That’s all well and good but can we also focus on highlighting how these foods can be enjoyed as part of a varied and balanced diet? It’s about time that we did.

Oh me, oh my, oh apple pie! 

Apple pie is my favourite dessert and also one of my favourite foods in general. There is nothing better than a warming slice of appley goodness encased in a soft pie crust. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! So, imagine my delight when I found this little beauty in the April Sourced Box. This apple pie good-for-you dessert bar by Rhythm 108 made for the perfect evening dessert after a glorious Sunday roast and is a great substitute to the real deal.

WHY I’LL NEVER BE VEGETARIAN/VEGAN

If you follow me on Instagram or have read any of my What I Eat In A Day posts, you will have probably noticed that 9 times out of 10, I eat a vegetarian dish. I have been asked in the past if I was vegetarian and it took them by surprise when I said I wasn’t. I’ve never been overly fussed about meat but I do eat chicken and turkey and am also a huge lover of fish. However, I am known to naturally lean towards the veggie options when eating out at restaurants and I could probably easily go vegetarian if I really wanted. The thought has crossed my mind multiple times, but my conclusion remains the same: I wouldn’t. Here is my reasoning.

WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY | 13/04/16

Another Wednesday, another day of delicious food! Today was a lazy stay at home day which was much needed after a weekend of partying. Being an introvert, I need a couple of days to refuel and since it was a miserable day outside (where you at Spring?!), it was the perfect excuse to stay in.

BREAKFAST
MATCHA PORRIDGE WITH BANANA & CHOC SHOT

Today’s breakfast was my go-to porridge. There was once a time that I would turn my nose up at it, but now it’s one of my favourite foods. I use the Quaker Oat So Simple sachets because I’m pretty damn lazy in the morning. I’m always starving when I wake up and want my breakfast ASAP. I added the last bit of my matcha powder from Teapigs that I received in a previous Sourced Box. It gives the porridge a lovely green tea flavour and as you can see, turns the oats green! Top it with a banana and some choc shot from Sweet Freedom and you have the perfect, nutritious breakfast. A coffee was also had with this but that goes without saying.

Subscription boxes have been popping up left, right and centre over the past couple of years. I’ve fallen guilty to a few in the past, but the current one I am subscribed to is by far the best I have discovered. Introducing Sourced Box. Started up by YouTubers Marcus Butler and Niomi Smart, Sourced Box is a monthy subscription service that delivers healthy snacks straight to your door. Perfect for all of you foodies.

I’ve been subscribed to this box since it launched back in January and I have yet to be disappointed. Over the past few months, I have received a huge range of products from seeds to chocolate to tea.

100% NATURAL RAW CHOC BROWNIE REVIEW

I’ve never been a huge lover of desserts. One of my least favourite foods is cheesecake and I’ve never been overly fussed about cake. However, one dessert that can always get my mouth watering are chocolate brownies – ESPECIALLY when warm. Oh the chocolatey gooey goodness! Now, obviously nothing beats a real brownie, but the healthy alternatives that I have come across have yet to disappoint. Thanks to March’s Sourced Box, I was able to try the gogi & acai berry raw chocolate brownie by 100% Natural. Here’s a little insight into the brand and a review of the little delight itself.

WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY | 06/04/16

One of my favourite blog posts to read and YouTube videos to watch are those ‘What I Eat In a Day’ ones. So, I thought I would join onto the bandwagon. Every Wednesday I’ll be sharing with you everything that I have eaten on that day – or a day prior to it – showing you that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring.

BREAKFAST
WEETABIX WITH BANANA & HONEY

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. It’s probably the only reason I’m a morning person. It’s the spring break so I got up at the slightly later time of 8am – that’s late for me – and went for one of my favourite brekkie combos: weetabix with banana & honey. I’ll admit I’m a bit late to the honey game as I only tried it for the first time a couple of months ago but now I can’t imagine the food cupboards without it. I use Rowse honey. What’s great about this brand is that they’re the primary sponsor of the Sussex Plan for Honey Bee Health & Well-Being. This honey not only tastes great but you’re also helping out to save the bees. A coffee is also always a must have in the morning.
