THOUGHTS ON ‘TO THE BONE’

I think it goes without saying that any TV show or film based around a mental health problem will be in some way controversial. There will never be one that everyone is 100% happy with. This is of course understandable considering mental health is a very sensitive and personal subject for the majority of the population.

When I first heard about ‘To The Bone’ it was only natural that I be curious and want to watch it myself. As someone who is now in a good place mentally and mostly recovered from anorexia I am always intrigued by any form of media that portrays the disorder. I’m a full supporter of anything that can help raise more awareness of eating disorders and anything that can help remove the stigma that is still seen today.

For me, ‘To The Bone’ was a mixed bag. There were a few things that they got right and a fair amount that maybe weren’t so right.

PANCAKES

I’ve always thought very fondly of pancake day. In primary school, whenever the Tuesday before Lent rolled around, I would be ready for two little scotch pancakes topped with jam. My school must have also shared these fond thoughts as we would always have a second day titled ‘Pancake Day 2’ before the Easter holidays. My Dad would also always make pancakes for dessert after dinner and I would load golden syrup onto mine. Simple but sweet unlike my sister who always wanted to put a bit of everything on hers but was never allowed.

Yesterday my Mum made pancakes from one of those ready made mixes but I wanted to make my own. Last year I opted for Deliciously Ella’s sweet potato pancakes which I topped with banana & Sweet Freedom choc shot if I remember correctly. This year I decided to look through my newer recipe books and hunt for a new pancake recipe to try. Here I found another recipe from Ella in her new book Deliciously Ella with Friends: blueberry pancake stack.

2016: A YEAR IN REVIEW

For many 2016 was one hell of a rubbish year. Things could not be more different for me. 2016 was by far the best year of my life for multiple reasons and I thought I would sum up just a few on here.

I also made a video reflecting on the past 12 months and talking about my goals for 2017 which I will link at the end.

‘RHYTHM 108’ CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT TEA BISCUITS REVIEW

It’s been a while since I’ve written up a snack review so I thought it was about time that I started them up again. I’m going to aim to review at least one product from each months ‘Sourced Box‘ and one product from ‘The Vegan Kind‘. There are so many healthy snacks/vegan alternatives out there that it can be overwhelming at times. Hopefully these reviews will help you in making your snack choices. You can taste the food through me!

I’m starting up these reviews again with one of my favourite brands, ‘Rhythm 108.’ Sourced Box first introduced me to this brand earlier this year and since that first appearance, they have featured twice more in the box. This time around we have the second of two of their tea biscuits – chocolate hazelnut.

THE VEGAN KIND | MYSTERY BOX

You should all know by now that I am a sucker for subscription boxes. Before discovering healthy snack subscriptions, I was subscribed to ‘Kawaii Box‘ – a monthly box filled with wonderfully cute Japanese things. Even then I was still captivated by the foodie goodness as I was also subscribed to ‘Graze.’ After being a loyal ‘Graze’ customer for almost three years, I thought it was about time for a change. ‘The Vegan Kind‘ caught my eye a while back and for only £10 a box I thought it was pretty good, especially when you consider some of the products that are in it.

One of the things that’s great about this subscription is that you don’t have to wait until the next month to receive your first box. With most subscriptions you tend to miss that months box, but ‘The Vegan Kind’ give you the option to start your subscription right away! They offer you the chance to receive either a past box or a mystery box. Being the impatient person I am, I just HAD to take up this offer and I was super excited to find myself with a mystery box.

‘SQUIRREL SISTERS’ COCONUT CASHEW REVIEW

I first discovered Squirrel Sisters through Sourced Box a few months ago and I have been obsessed ever since. Unfortunately, it has proved hard to get my hands on the snacks but thankfully both Sourced Box and new snacking service My Vitamins have sorted me out a few more times with these divine bars. I recently got to try the coconut cashew flavour and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

INTRODUCING THE NEW NAKD. BARS

I’ve been a huge fan of nakd. for about two years now and there is nothing that excites me more than the announcement of new flavours. This summer, nakd. announced three brand new flavours – apricot crunch, peanut delight & carrot cake – and being the food lover that I am, I had to get my hands on them ASAP. My Dad ordered a mixed case of the new fruit & nut bars and gave me one of each so it only felt right for me to review them.
